The Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Run – “all the ingredients for a truly special race”
Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Run is one of my favourites as I smashed personal best - Paul O'Hare
Arthur's Seat was bathed in sunshine as 3,000 runners awaited the start of one of Scotland's most unique races.
The Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Run offers a challenging, traffic-free route which showcases the best of our historic capital.
And it covers a rare distance of 10 miles, which is ideal for runners hoping to step up from 10k. This year, for the first time, organisers also offered a 5 mile option as well as the headline distance. Sunday's schedule was complete with a fun one mile Family Run, for three to 15 year-olds, and a 100m Toddler Dash, for kids aged five and under.
I had positive memories of the 2015 edition - which I completed in 1:10:30 - but missed last year's event as I was taking part in the London Marathon.
I arrived at Holyrood Park in good shape having completed the Paris Marathon earlier this month.
As a result my target was to run sub-1:10.
